Night Shopping in Bangkok
It’s true what they say; Bangkok never sleeps. You never quite managed to
get all your shopping done during the day, fear not, Bangkok has a wealth of
night markets and shopping hot spots scattered around the city open until
the early hours. Here we take you on a quick tour of the best places to pick
up a bargain in Bangkok. And remember, in the markets haggling is expected,
so you should try your best to get the price down by around 30 percent!

Suan Lum Night Bazaar
An excellent night market in central Bangkok is Suan Lum Night Bazaar, close
to Lumpini Park. The market is like a stripped down version and wide aisles
the night bazaar is easy to walk around. It is also a fraction of the size
of Chatuchak meaning that you can spend a pleasant evening her and see
everything. The stalls sell everything from clother to souvenirs, furniture
and interior deor, and CDs. There are also several restaurants and beer
gardens plus a huge open air food court selling a wide variety of Thai and
international cuisine. A large stage at the end of the food court is the
venue for a host of live music acts making this a great place for an
enjoyable night out.
Getting there: the easiest way to Suan Lum Night Bazaar is on the MRT
underground. Get off at Lumpini station and then follow signs to the night
market exit.
Silom Road & Patpong
It seems that everyone has heard about Patpong, Bangkok’s infamous red-light
district. Less well-knoen to first time visitors, however, is that the two
roads, Patpong 1 and Patpong 2 and Silom Road are the location of a night
market. Every evening from about 6 p.m. vendors set up stalls to sell their
wares until beyond midnight. Here you can buy cheap souvenirs and much more.
You’ll find everything from counterfeit designer watches, shoes, t-shirts,
silk, DVDs and CDs, and arts and crafts, The market stretches the length of
Silom Road and is easily reached by alighting at the Sala Daeng BTS Skytrain
station.
Nana Market

Khao San Road
Khao San Road is the backpacker haven of Southast Asia. It is located a ten
minute walk from Bangkok’s historic Banglamphu district near the Grand
Palace. Although backpackers have traditionally been drawn to the area
because of cheap accommodation, Khao San Road is also known for its vibrant
night market, restaurants and bars. The area is also gradually moving up
market and attracting a good mix of visitors, not just backpackers. The road
is full of pedestrians 24 hours a day and lined stalls selling food, gifts,
DVDs, CDs and clothing. Khao San Road also attracts young Thais in search of
a bargain.

Talat Pak Khlong & Saphan Phut Market
Talat Pak Khlong is one of Bangkok’s biggest markets for wholesale produce.
Here you can buy fresh fruits and vegetables but it is mainly known for
flowers. The market is located around Chak Phet Street and its side-streets.
Strategically located by the river, boats arrive at Pak Khlong Pier at night
loaded with flowers and produce, and trucks roll into the area and block the
main street and side-streets. By 2 a.m. trade is well under way and the
market is heaving with buyers and sellers. The array of beautiful blooms is
simply stunning: the air a heady mix of perfume. The market is one of the
best places in the city to take pictures.

Khlong Tom
To experience the bustle and congestion of a real Asian market head to
Khlong Thom in Chinatown. Located near to Mahachak Road and Soi Chong
Chareon Phanit, the market is heaving every evening with shoppers browsing
an array of electrical goods, tools, spare car parts, knock-off software,
DVDs and CDs, antiques and much more. It has a real old-fashioned flea
market feel to it. Even if there is nothing that takes your fancy for sale,
you’ll love the energy of this unique market
Getting there: the most convenient way to get Chinatown is to travel on the
underground to Hualampong Station and then get a tuk-tuk or taxi.
